“I don’t have customers that stay here, I have friends.”

- Sharon Mangler, Owner & Hostess with the Mostest

The History of the Castle Bed & Breakfast.

It all began with a man who wanted to build a beautiful home for his wife on the river. Stories say they lived a long and happy life in the home.

When they moved on, Joan Thompson bought the home. Prior to moving, Joan and her children were in the Panama Canal Zone. She was stationed there as a nurse for the American government. Yet she found herself missing home so back to Sabula, Iowa.

As time passed and her children grew up, Joan found herself in a large home wanting to share the beauty that was all around her. She open her doors to people all over the world in the year of 1980. The Castle has had guest from all over the globe with each one leaving as a new friend.

Currently Sharon Mangler, Joan’s daughter, owns and filled the big shoes of her Mother’s being a hostess with what she would say has the mostest. And it is true when you walk through that front door Sharon is there to greet you with stories and amazing food, you wont want to leave.
